Big Sur Retreat

Published in Dwell, the design of the retreat is rooted in community, authenticity, and sustainability. Built by legendary jazz musician Charles Lloyd, the property now serves as a shared vacation retreat for a close-knit group of friends. As the designer, my goal was to honor the home’s architectural influences while bringing in the eclectic spirit of the new owners.
 
Sustainability was a top priority. Nearly all furnishings were sourced locally and are vintage or secondhand, giving the space both character and a lighter environmental footprint. The result is a soulful, serene hideaway that feels deeply rooted in its surroundings—perfect for gathering, reflection, and creative escape.

Big Sur Cottage

Located on the lower level of a unique Big Sur property shared by a group of close friends, this cottage—built in 2000—was designed in the same Japanese architectural style as the main house and artist loft. Together, these three dwellings form a cohesive retreat rooted in creativity, community, and nature.

While the cottage echoes the same clean lines and craftsmanship as the other buildings, its softer color palette introduces a lighter, more serene atmosphere. To maintain this aesthetic, we sourced furnishings that reflect the same Japanese and wabi-sabi influences but in gentler hues and textures that enhance the peaceful, welcoming vibe.

We repurposed an ancillary structure near the cottage into a remote workspace, allowing for quiet focus without sacrificing the cottage’s calming energy. Natural light, organic materials, and a minimalist layout make it ideal for modern living and creative flow.

The result is a tranquil, design-forward space that complements the shared property's holistic vision—offering a sanctuary for rest, connection, and inspiration.

Tanbark Cottage

Big Sur Studio

Originally built to be an artist’s studio above the garage, we transformed it into a fully furnished ADU while preserving its creative roots. Nestled in the same breathtaking Big Sur property as the main home, this unit carries forward the spirit of artistry, nature, and thoughtful design. Furnishings are almost entirely vintage and locally sourced, in keeping with the project’s sustainable ethos. The result is a peaceful, self-contained space that feels connected to the land—and the legacy of creativity it was built on.

SOM Aesthetics

At CCG Designs, we were tasked with transforming a standard leased office suite into the flagship location for SOM Aesthetics, a boutique cosmetic dermatology practice founded by Dr. Saami Khalifian and Dr. Jessica Shisler. Our mission was to create a space that not only supported their advanced treatments but also embodied their brand — modern, luxurious, and state-of-the-art.

Since the building was leased, we worked creatively within the limitations of what could be changed without requiring structural alterations or permitting. Every design move was intentional, from surface-level enhancements to custom furnishings and art. The preserved moss wall at the entry was a perfect example: it brought biophilic beauty and a sense of wellness into the space without the maintenance or challenges of live plants — a smart solution for commercial interiors.

SOM Aesthetics Office

San Antonio Airbnb

Gothic Cowboy-Themed Airbnb in San Antonio, Texas, combined the eerie elegance of Gothic design with the rugged charm of the Old West. The space transports guests to an alternate version of frontier life. The furnishings were locally sourced antiques, blending vintage cowboy artifacts with dark, romantic Spanish pieces. Rich velvet, distressed leather, and hand-carved wood create a moody, nostalgic atmosphere. Inspired by candlelight and lanterns, lighting casts deep shadows, enhancing the mysterious vibe. The goal was to craft a space where history and fantasy collide, offering guests a truly immersive retreat that feels both timeless and hauntingly beautiful.



Gothic Western Airbnb

Kentucky Airbnb

Designed as an immersive getaway for travelers exploring Kentucky’s iconic bourbon trail, this Airbnb brings the spirit of the Derby to life. The creative brief? A retired jockey’s cabin tucked beside a quiet lake.

We layered the space with authentic Kentucky Derby memorabilia, including vintage racing silks from the 1970s, framed track photography, and a bar stocked with collectible Derby glasses dating from 1975 to today. Every detail nods to equestrian heritage while still offering modern comfort and style.

The result is a warm, nostalgic space that invites guests to kick back, sip bourbon, and experience a slice of Southern charm—one that’s as photogenic as it is unforgettable.

Designer For a Day - Loft Apartment

In this two-day design session, I worked closely with the client to refresh and unify their NYC loft—styling the office, living room, bedroom, and kitchen using only pieces they already owned. We began by clarifying the client’s style vision, then curated and rearranged existing furniture and decor to create a calming, cohesive flow throughout the space. In the kitchen, we focused on open shelving—balancing form and function by showcasing select pieces while storing away anything that disrupted the aesthetic. The result is a thoughtfully edited, elevated environment that feels fresh, personal, and inviting—proof that great design doesn’t always require new purchases, just a new perspective.
